Yawataya Isogoro

Yawataya Isogoro is a historic Japanese spice maker founded in 1736 in Nagano, near Zenkoji Temple. The brand began when its founder, Kan’emon, started selling shichimi togarashi to temple visitors, laying the foundation for a spice tradition that continues today.

The company is best known for its signature shichimi togarashi, a carefully balanced seven-spice blend made from chili pepper, citrus peel, sesame, sansho, perilla, ginger, and hemp seed. The exact recipe remains a closely guarded secret, refined over generations.

Yawataya Isogoro’s spices are valued for their aroma and depth rather than just heat. Beyond classic shichimi, the brand also produces ichimi chili powder, yuzu shichimi, and other variations, all sold in their iconic red and gold canisters.
