Japanese Taste Opens First Physical Store at JR Kyoto Station

Japanese Taste brings the best Japanese products to Kyoto with its first brick-and-mortar store. Officially opened on October 16 within JR Kyoto Station, the store offers local and international visitors a hands-on experience with a curated selection of authentic Japanese souvenirs and gifts.

“Our mission remains true: to bring the best of Japan to your home,” says David, Director of Japanese Taste. “At our Kyoto store, customers can explore authentic Japanese pantry essentials, home goods, beauty and self-care favorites, and other unique, gift-worthy items—all sourced directly from Japan’s passionate local artisans, farmers, and makers.”

The store’s interior reflects a Wabi-Sabi-inspired aesthetic, featuring natural wood accents, a harmonious blend of wood and stone surfaces, and thoughtfully arranged displays that capture simplicity, warmth, and modern Japanese minimalism.

The space was designed by the same architect behind our award-winning Hyogo office, which has recently received two international design awards.

The design embraces an open layout that allows visitors to browse at their own pace while enjoying a relaxed atmosphere amid the hustle and bustle of busy Kyoto Station.
